Change Your Home Address on Google Maps

Home Address on Google Maps

Home Address on Google Maps When you move into a new house, there’s a lot to do to get ready for the day you move in. Along with the boxing and unboxing, you may need to transfer your phone contracts or look for a new data plan and find a new internet service provider. Even though these tasks are complex, it’s easy to do them in advance, so everything’s ready on the first day, including the internet connection and the delivery of the new washer that connects to your smart home setup.

With all of this to do, there’s one thing you shouldn’t forget to do, especially if you use Google Maps. You’ll also need to change your home address in Maps. The process takes only a few seconds. It’s a good idea to update your address in advance. That way, it’s easier to get back to your new home with just a tap and no wrong turns.

How to update your home address using your phone

The easiest way to update your home address is by using the Google Maps app on your phone. The app is preloaded on most Android phones, and iPhone users can download Google Maps for iOS from the App Store.

  1. Tap your picture or initials in the upper-right corner.
  2. Go to Settings > Edit home or work.
  3. Tap the overflow () menu next to your current address.
  4. Select Edit home.
  5. Tap the X next to your current address in the search bar.
  6. Enter your new address in the search bar and tap on the address suggested by Google.
  7. Check the information on the screen and tap Done.

How to update your home address in Google Maps on your desktop

While updating your address from the Google Maps Android and iOS apps may be the more convenient, updating your information from a computer will give you a little more room to type. If you’d rather change your address using a web browser on your desktop computer or laptop, you can easily do so. Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Navigate to Google Maps using your favorite browser.
  2. Click the hamburger menu, located in the upper-right corner.
  3. Select Your places > Labeled to find your current address.
  4. Click the X next to your current address to remove it.
  5. Click Set a home address.
  6. Type your new address in the search bar.
  7. Select the address suggested by Google to validate it.

Find your way home with the tap of a button (and Google Maps)

It just takes a few clicks to update your home address on Google Maps, regardless of whether you’re doing it from your phone or computer. This saves time when you’re trying to get home and need route guidance. It may seem silly to add your home address if you typically stay in your own town, but the first time Google Maps recommends an alternate route during rush hour, you’ll realize just how helpful the app is.

While there’s no place like home, it’s also nice to get away every now and then. If you’re ready for your next big adventure, take the stress out of trip planning by using the various Google services to plan your next trip.
